The fishing at Crane Prairie has been good and it will likely stay productive until the low temperatures are consistently below freezing. Winter seems to be coming fast so I wouldn’t delay your late-season lake trip. The forecast shows temperatures in the low-mid 60s for this week. I would expect some decent callibaetis hatches, be prepared with a range of sizes. Most terrestrials are off the menu at this point; although, a chubby will always make for a great indicator. There are still lots of fish biting balanced leeches. Callibaetis nymphs are a good bet along with chironomids and midges. I would definitely be sizing down nymphs right now, size 16 and smaller is a good way to go. Red and black have been good colors for the nymphs. The fish in higher elevations are chowing down in preparation for winter, it’s a perfect week to find a late-season Crane bow.
