Crooked River Report 5/21/21

The Crooked has been excellent. Water just went down to around 180 CFS, we’re not sure how long this will last. Despite this, fishing has been great. We’re still seeing blue wing olives hatch on cooler days. Action with pale morning duns is heating up. Mother’s Day caddis hatches are peaking right now. Most are size 14 - 16 in a green - tan color, but darker colors can be really good as it gets later in the day. Terrestrial patterns are great to try out too, especially in a dry dropper set-up. For subsurface flies, I would try pupa and BWO nymph patterns first. If that doesn’t work move on to scuds or midges. Believe it or not, small balanced leeches can be pretty effective. It’s been great at the Crooked this season. Our guides have picked up some really nice fish and I bet the fish will be keen on biting during this cool weather.
