Crooked River Update

Crooked River Update

Fishing has been fair to good on the Crooked. Nymphing has been the best way to find fish throughout the day, a two fly rig with a Stonefly pattern up front and a small Midge or Baetis trailer seems to be the ticket. Flows are relatively high and off-color water is forcing fish to make quick decisions, and they seem to be liking big, buggy, Stonefly patterns more each day. We like to focus our efforts on pocket water, which allows us to quickly work through the likeliest of holding water. Even with the off-color water, fish have been tippet shy so stick to the 5 and 6x, flourocarbon is ideal when nymphing. There is opportunity to fish dries as well. The last hour or so of the day will provide best bug activity with Caddis and some small mayflies most evenings.
