Fishing continues to be lights out on the Crooked. Our guides are seeing surface activity everyday, and some days are absolutely insane as far as the number of bugs on the water go. The Mayfly hatch is transitioning and we are seeing increasing numbers of BWOs as PMDs become a little farther and fewer between. There are a few drizzly days in the forecast, those looking to fish dries should do their best to get on the water when we’ve got consistent cloud cover. Tying on a nymph doesn’t even need to be a consideration at times, but when fish are selective or when the hatch is not at its peak trailing a BWO emerger a few feet behind a dry can greatly increase numbers. If there is no surface action whatsoever, the standard Crooked nymph rig with a small Mayfly or Scud trailed by a Midge pattern will get the job done. Levels on the Crooked are dropping quickly, and fish may become a little more weary with the lower flows. While presentation may become more important the water should be easy to read and there will be fish in all of the places that there should be.
