East Lake Report 9/24/21

The fishing at East Lake is still going great. Remember that launching big boats is nearly impossible due to low water. The weather this week is looking warm and sunny to start and then wet and cooler later on. This is probably the last of the 70s for the year, which means the fish will be cruising around looking to fatten up on the last of the summer hatches. The callibaetis hatch is still going on, most are around size 16 - 18, a few may get up to size 14 with cloud cover. Terrestrials are best when paired with a nymph or two. Callibaetis nymphs, chironomids, midges, and small mayfly patterns have been the best subsurface flies, size 16 - 20 gets the job done. Balanced leeches work very well for fooling fall fish. Stripping streamers is great if you’re hunting for a big predatory brown trout. Hopefully next summer, East won’t have low water and we can enjoy normal fishing conditions. Thanks to everyone who read our summer reports, we’ve got more on the way for fall!
