Hosmer has continued to fish well, and we’ve received reports that the lake has turned over and cleared up from an algae bloom in recent days. There is plenty of Damsels and Callibaetis starting to appear, and fish are really keying in on the Damsel Nymphs. The most consistent method for catching fish at the moment is slowly retrieving a damsel nymph using an intermediate line. Focus efforts on shallow weed beds and muddy bottoms when fishing Damsels, and vary the retrieve until you find what the fish are looking for. There are plenty of fish opportunistically coming to the surface to feed on various terrestrials, and ant and beetle patterns are becoming increasingly effective. On the right days the Callibaetis hatch has come on pretty strong, and fish have been keying in on both the nymphs and emergers when conditions are right.
