Hosmer has continued to fish well and is the go-to for those looking to find some of the bigger Brookies in Central Oregon. Crowds will make using the boat ramp and fishing difficult through much of the day, but anglers who are willing to get up early and stay out until dark have been able to work around the other float traffic enjoying the lake. There are rewards to be had for the efforts of being on the lake during low light hours, and we’ve had multiple reports of solid numbers of quality fish coming. There is a Callibaetis hatch that has been bringing fish to the surface in the evenings, and good numbers of Sedges around at dusk. Sedges and Callibaetis Spinners also typically provide some opportunity to fish dries early in the morning.
When the fish aren’t looking to the surface, stripping streamers and leech patterns can be productive and produce aggressive takes from quality fish. Chironomids, Balanced Leeches, and Callibaetis Nymphs are great options for fishing under an indicator, and can produce some of the best numbers of fish. For a beautiful setting and a little solitude, wake up early and head to Hosmer in search of nice brookies and quality rainbows!
