June On Crane

June On Crane

June is one of our favorite months to be out on Crane and the fishing is really starting to heat up! We are starting to see good Damsel and Callibaetis activity, and while some days are still better than others our guides have been reporting great fishing for the most part. With the warmer weather we are starting to see some algae blooms. For now the resulting patch of murky water has been drifting around and changing location day by day. Staying in the clear water will provide the best opportunities to fish Damsels and Callibaetis. The go to method for Damsels has been slowly retrieving a nymph pattern with an intermediate line, we recommend having either a Rio CamoLux or Rio AquaLux ready to go if you are headed to the lakes. Fishing both Callibaetis nymphs and cripples has been effective when the hatch is on. Chironomids underneath an indicator have continued to produce fish consistently, and fishing deep when fishing in the algae bloom will get flies to clear water towards the bottom of the lake, where fish continue to feed actively.
