LAKE REPORT - 8/28/26
Lakes are beginning to benefit from cooler late-August weather, but water temperature still needs to dictate the day. Morning fishing remains the best option, with fish moving toward deeper, cooler water as temperatures rise. Crane continues to be the lake to approach most cautiously, while East and Paulina are offering better opportunities when anglers monitor temperatures and adjust throughout the day.
The second brood of Callibaetis is now showing well at East Lake, bringing back better surface opportunities during the cooler parts of the day. Chironomids remain important in deeper water, while beetles and other terrestrials continue to produce around East and Paulina when shoreline temperatures allow.
Subsurface fishing remains the most consistent approach with chironomids, Callibaetis nymphs, balanced leeches, and smaller attractor nymphs producing.
