Lakes Update April 18th, 2025

Haystack Reservoir continues to fish well with balanced leeches and olive chironomids getting the job done, especially during warmer stretches of the day. It’s a reliable option right now and should only get better as temperatures continue to rise.

Chickahominy Reservoir has roughly two feet of visibility, which is enough to keep things productive. Chironomids, leeches, Prince nymphs, and water boatman are all good choices. Slow presentations are key — especially in the morning and evening when fish tend to move into shallower water to feed.

Crane Prairie Reservoir opens April 22nd. The countdown is on, and early season often brings your best shot at a true trophy. If you’re itching to chase big fish in a scenic setting, now’s the time to mark the date and get ready.

Lake Billy Chinook has had a slow start but our guides have been making regular runs out there, and the feedback has been consistently on the positive side.Water temps are still a few degrees lower than we'd like them but every week seems to bring better conditions and more action. The next few weeks should be a good time to get after it but stay away from the Crooked arm, as that is running high.
