Lakes Update August 1, 2025

Hosmer Lake continues to fish well in both the lower and upper sections. Damsels and Callibaetis are the top food sources right now, with fish responding to both nymphs and dries. Stripping small leeches and soft hackles remains productive, especially in the channel and along the weed edges. A few Traveling Sedge sightings continue, so don't be afraid to skate a big dry in the evening.

East Lake is picking up steam with better hatches and more active fish. Callibaetis are showing up strong mid-morning to early afternoon, and trout are on them. Stripping nymphs and soft hackles near drop-offs and weed lines is working, and suspending balanced leeches or red chironomids under an indicator is a solid daytime plan. Ants and beetles are also pulling fish from the surface when the wind is calm.

Paulina Lake is fishing steadily and may be more consistent than East right now. Balanced leeches, chironomids, and Red PTs under an indicator are producing well. Stripping buggers or damsels near structure or across shoals can trigger aggressive eats, especially early and late in the day. Terrestrials are also an option during warm, calm afternoons.

Crane Prairie has been hit-or-miss but is still worth the effort. The best action has been coming out of the Quinn and Cultus arms, where fish are holding near submerged timber and channel edges. Chironomids, dark leeches, and Callibaetis nymphs are all in play. Dry-dropper rigs with a chubby up top and something like a 2 Bit Hooker or Balanced Scud below can be deadly when fish move up to feed.

Little Lava Lake remains a fun and accessible option. The Callibaetis hatch is still active, and chironomids—especially red or olive—are pulling fish. Balanced leeches like the Spicy Squirrel or mini jigs under an indicator are great for working the deeper zones. Some bigger brookies and holdover rainbows are around, so it’s worth fishing patiently and methodically.
