Access continues to improve across the region. The southern portion of the Cascade Lakes Highway is now open starting from Forest Service Road 4270 southward. Northern access points remain closed, but this is a big step forward.
Paulina Lake Road is now open, allowing anglers to reach both East Lake and Paulina Lake. Ice is off, and fishing opportunities are beginning to shape up. Leeches under indicators, Chironomid rigs, and stripping tactics are all in play.
Crane Prairie remains productive with alanced Leeches, Ice Cream Cones (red and black), and Chironomids in olive, black, and red are the go-tos. Sizes #14–16 are working well, but bring a few smaller sizes to adjust as needed.
North and South Twin continue to offer good action with similar setups. Balanced Damsels, Leeches, and Callibaetis nymphs stripped or suspended are pulling fish.
Haystack Reservoir continues to put out quality fish. Subsurface presentations like leech patterns fished on intermediate or sinking lines have been effective. Look for water temps in the mid-50s and target drop-offs or deeper holding areas.
