Lakes Update October 4th, 2024

Hosmer Lake has been on fire lately, offering great fishing opportunities. Sensitive indicators have been especially effective, and a fluorocarbon leader with an olive body fly featuring a touch of flash is a recommended setup. Essential patterns to pack include leeches, damsel nymphs, soft hackles, and chironomids in the blood worm stage. Scuds and water boatman are also worth considering. For surface action, small to mid-sized chubbies, beetles, and ants are perfect, especially around reed lines. East Lake isn’t producing as consistently, but balanced leeches, damsels, and chironomids are still worth a shot. Stripping small buggers or baitfish patterns in the early morning and late evening can be productive. Three Creeks Lake is also holding strong—stripping small streamers and using suspended flies like balanced leeches and chironomids under an indicator have worked well. For topwater action, darker callibaetis and black dancer caddis are worth using. Paulina Lake has similar fishing conditions, with scuds, ice cream cones, beetles, and two-bits all producing. With varied conditions day to day, versatility in fly selection is key to success. As fall progresses, these lakes continue to offer enjoyable fishing.
