Lava Lakes Mid-Summer Update

Lava Lakes Mid-Summer Update

With summer in full swing in the Cascades we aren’t spending as much time on Lava or Little Lava as we do in the shoulder seasons. There are definitely fish to be caught, and we’ve been receiving reports of some decent days of fishing on both. They can be great areas to head to avoid crowds, but as surface temperatures warm the fish tend to congregate in the deeper portions of the lakes, which can be difficult to reach with fly. Look for the most consistent action to be in the early mornings and late evenings, and cover water with a Wooly Bugger or similar pattern to find fish that have moved into the shallows and are looking to eat. Otherwise, focus efforts on Crane Prairie and East, which are typically more productive this time of year and look forward to fishing Lava as the weather cools this fall!
