Lower Deschutes Update - 4/22/22

The entirety of the Lower Deschutes opens this morning and we are very excited for this season. The Fly and Field crew just got off a 3 day Spring shakedown float from Trout Creek to Harpham Flats and we had some awesome fishing below the boundary. Stonefly nymphs are the ticket right now as the big bugs migrate along the bottom of the river in anticipation of hatching. A jimmy legs or other large Stonefly pattern followed by 8”-10” of tippet and a caddis or mayfly nymph is a great way to go. We saw hatches of March Browns and BWO’s midday and a few of our guys picked some nice fish up on dries. We also got some fish swinging soft hackles. Early Spring is an excellent time to be on the river and beat some of the salmonfly crowds so get down there and catch some fish!

Recommended Dries: March brown #12-14, Hackle Stacker PMD #14-18, Parachute PMD #14-18, Hackle Stacker Baetis #16-20, Parachute Baetis #16-20.

Recommended Nymphs: Jimmy Legs #8 Black or Brown, Jigged Hares Ear #14-16, Jigged Pheasant Tail #14-16, Psycho Prince #14-16, Duracell Jig #14-18,  Copper John #14-18
