METOLIUS REPORT - 7/17/26
The Metolius continues to be one of Central Oregon's most dependable summer fisheries, with cold, spring-fed flows keeping trout active despite rising daytime temperatures. Anglers taking a patient approach and focusing on quality presentations are continuing to find action throughout the day.

PMDs remain the most consistent afternoon hatch, while evening caddis activity has become increasingly dependable as summer settles in. Trout are feeding opportunistically on a broader mix of mayflies and caddis, creating steady dry fly opportunities.
Subsurface techniques continue to produce the most consistent results throughout the day. Golden Stone nymphs, Perdigons, Zebra Midges, PMD nymphs, and caddis pupa producing. Bull trout anglers are still finding opportunities by covering water with larger articulated streamers, particularly around deeper pools and structure where these fish remain active.
