Metolius River Report 7/23/21

Fishing has been good at the Metolius. Dry fly fishing is most productive in the late afternoon or evening. We’re seeing great numbers of pale morning duns and caddis. Golden stones are coming out in the upper areas of the river. We should see some goldens appear in the lower sections pretty soon. Nymphing has been productive with caddis pupa, PMD nymphs and golden stones. It’s good to note that this time of year the trout are often keyed into bugs suspended above the bottom. With PMD nymphs and caddis pupa it is not always necessary to get them super deep. The Grandview Fire is almost completely contained, hopefully fire crews continue to do an amazing job protecting our area from catastrophic fires.
