The trout fishing on the Lower D has slowed a little with the cold weather, but water temperatures are still hovering in the mid-high 40s and fish are feeding actively. Focusing on slow, deep tailouts and seams has continued to produce some great fish and days of consistent action. We are still seeing a lot of fish come on Stonefly patterns, but small Mayfly nymphs and emergers are the best producers. Steelhead are being caught on both swung flies and nymphs, it just takes a lot of time and a little luck to get into one with the low numbers this year. The nice thing about swinging a fly right now is there are some nice trout that will grab a black Hoh Bo Spey or something of that sort to keep things interesting. There is less than one month to fish the Lower D in the Warm Springs area and fishing pressure is light, so now is the time to squeeze in the last day or two for the season on the river we all hold so dear.
