Mothers Day Caddis Still Going Strong On The Crooked

Mothers Day Caddis Still Going Strong On The Crooked

The flows on the Crooked have remained steady, currently hovering around 230 CFS there is great water to fish through the first 8 or so miles below Bowman Dam. The caddis we have all been so excited about are still around, but at this point in the hatch the dry fly fishing has been a little more hit or miss than it was mid May. That being said, fishing has been good and our guides have been reporting that good numbers of fish are being caught consistently. Nymphing has been good, with a standard Crooked River assortment of midges, mayflies, and caddis nymphs all producing fish. On the right day there is plenty of dry fly action to be had, the fish are just a little more finicky than they have been at coming to the surface consistently. With the relatively low flows and amount of pressure the fish have been getting, stealth and good presentations are becoming increasingly important. Work upstream and cast at distances that allow for good mends and natural drifts to maximize action!
