Fly and Field Spring Shakedown Float Photo Essay

The Fly and Field Crew has a bi-annual tradition, the Shakedown floats. Once in the spring, and once in the Fall at the tail end of the fishery. These trips are usually met with inclement water, unstable river flows, but fortunately, accompanied by the best of company. For the spring float, we headed down to the Lower Deschutes for a 3-day float from Trout Creek to Harpham. Fishing began after the Northern Boundary and delightfully exceptional given the river flows were pumping over 7,000CFS. It is great to take a few days to kick back with the crew and learn a thing or two about the new guys joining the forces. This year we have Justin(JC) joining us as a shop employee and walk and wade guide. Other than JC, the only new crew that could make it was Gus and May, the two new Fly and Field Pups.

Meet Justin a.k.a. JC! He will be around the shop this summer. Be sure to come by and say hello!

Freeland and George- a dynamic duo that cannot be reckoned with.

Glenn, Lower Deschutes Guide, is a wizard with a Spey rod. More specifically, trout spey! If you are looking to get into trout spey this season. Get a day on the water with Glenn!

Griff and Gus take a snooze after rowing the Horse.

Lake Guide, Mitchell, takes a few reps with the slingshot. We set up empty cans to keep us entertained before our Washers tournament kicked off.

Freeland and George approaching the first chute after Buckskin Mary. I had climbed up into the canyon to get a new perspective and caught these boys coming into camp.

Mitchell is a man with a taste of finer things in life. Much like this camp spot he picked!

Scott, The Bossman, delivering up a delicious snack to the crew.

Griff with a nymph eating fish! Jimmy Legs!!!

Glenn and May. May might be the cutest dog to ever walk the face of this planet.. might be...

Dean, Washers Champion! Washers is a Fly and Field tradition. We love this game and our tournaments we have... it is funny how the rules always seem to change though! Scott and I went undefeated until we lost to Dean.
