Crane Prairie Update

Crane has remained the lake of choice for my guides this last week. We have had some great days despite wet and cold weather. The Kokanee are getting colored up and have been pushing higher into the main channels to spawn in large numbers. The trout are spreading back out and although the channels are still our main target, fish will continue to disperse as temps drop. Slow stripping a leech or bugger is a fun way to catch fish in the fall and very productive at times. Vary the speed and depth of your retrieve based on where you think the fish are feeding mostly and how active they are, target channels, and the timber edges, working water systematically to try and reach as many different potential fish as possible. Of course we have been picking up plenty of fish on classic indicator rigs, fishing smaller midge patterns above a balanced leech with depth being the main factor in catching and not.

Suggested Dries: Chubby Chernobyl black #12, Parachute Adams #16-20, Purple Haze #18-20, Para-Cricket #10-16, Chubby Chernobyl peacock #12.

Suggested Nymphs: Balanced Leech black/red #12-8, Two Bit Hooker black or red #16-20, Zebra Midge Black #18-20, Dark Assassin #18, Tiger Midge #18-20, Bead Wing Midge #18-22.
