CROOKED REPORT - 10/23/26
The Crooked River continues to run at exceptionally low flows, holding around 38 CFS below Bowman Dam. Fishing can still be productive, particularly through the deeper runs and remaining riffle water. Flows are expected to increase to approximately 50 CFS on November 1, which should provide some additional habitat heading into winter. Until then, being mindful of concentrated fish and limiting pressure remains important.
BWOs continue to be the primary fall mayfly to watch for, particularly during cooler and overcast afternoons. Midges remain important, with occasional PMDs still part of the mix. Small dries and emergers can provide opportunities when fish are feeding near the surface, although subsurface presentations remain the more consistent approach.
Nymphing continues to produce with small Perdigons, Spanish Bullets, Baetis nymphs, scuds, midges, and egg patterns all worth having in the rotation. Smaller patterns and lighter presentations can be especially effective in the reduced flows. With fish concentrated in limited holding water, avoid repeatedly targeting the same groups of fish.
