Crooked River Report 6/18/21

The fishing at the Crooked has been fair. The water has dropped back down to 200 CFS which has made things a bit easier. The larger caddis hatches are at an end for the year, but caddis will hatch sporadically for the rest of the summer. Pale morning duns are the dominant mayfly hatch for now. Terrestrial patterns work very well as searching patterns. Small mayfly nymphs and midges are really good choices for subsurface flies. Our guides really like small duracell jigs and two bit hookers. Caddis pupa are a really great choice, it’s a good idea to drift these a bit above the bottom so that you run into more trout than whitefish. Scuds and balanced leeches are good “hail-mary” flies when nothing else seems to work.
