East Lake Update

East Lake Update

East is still fishing pretty consistently, and while the days can be cold and blustery those willing to take the boat out are finding fairly consistent action and some beautiful fish. There are a lot of fish in the shallows, which makes targeting them with a nymph rig, dry dropper, or streamer pretty simple. We are seeing success with various techniques, and while the majority of the action will be subsurface we are still receiving a few reports of fish taking a terrestrial or attractor Mayfly pattern opportunistically when conditions are right. To maximize chances of success, drop a couple of small nymphs below an indicator and slowly cover water throughout the day. Some of the larger trout in the lake are willing to chase a streamer or leech pattern as well, so don’t hesitate to bring an intermediate or sink tip line if you’re looking to change things up. Expect fish to be wary when conditions are calm, typically activity increases through the morning and into the afternoon as the breeze picks up and the sun provides some warmth.
