FALL REPORT - 9/4/26
This weeks cooler weather settling into Central Oregon should set the Fall River up nicely as we move through September. Its cold spring-fed water continues to provide consistent conditions, while cloudy days and cooler afternoons should open up more opportunities throughout the day.
The hatch mix should begin to broaden with the changing weather. PMDs remain important, while BWOs should become increasingly worth watching for on cooler, cloudy days. Midges, small olive caddis, and smaller stoneflies remain part of the mix, with ants and beetles still good options while we transition out of summer.
Subsurface fishing remains steady with small Perdigons, PMD nymphs, midges, scuds, and smaller stonefly patterns all worth having in the rotation. Eggs and small leeches can also be productive, while small streamers remain a good option around deeper slots, undercut banks, and submerged structure.
