METOLIUS REPORT - 9/4/26
AND JUST LIKE THAT! It's beginning to feel like fall, with cooler weather and cold water setting up the Metolius for one of our favorite stretches of the season. Fish remain spread throughout the system, with pocket water, deeper slots, and softer edges around structure all producing.
The hatch mix will begin to broaden moving into September. PMDs and BWOs remain important, while Ameletus continue to show and caddis remain abundant. Tan micro caddis are especially prevalent during warmer evenings, along with larger tan, olive, and gray caddis. October Caddis are increasing, and Little Olive Stones and Golden Stones remain part of the mix.Â
Subsurface fishing remains steady with Perdigons, PMD nymphs, soft hackles, caddis pupa, stonefly nymphs, and October Caddis pupa all worth having in the rotation. Bull trout remain active and streamers continue to be a good option through deeper pools and structure. With bull trout spawning activity underway, watch carefully for redds and give spawning fish plenty of room.
