Fall River Update

Fall River Update

Get ready for some winter fishing this week, with snow and sub freezing temperatures forecasted into the weekend. There is a winter storm warning in effect for most of us east of the Cascades scheduled to end in a few days so if you do plan on getting out there be prepared. I wouldn’t expect any mayflies for a bit with this cold weather but you can almost always bet on a midge hatch from late morning through the afternoon. In the winter midges are an absolute staple for fall river trout and they will spend all day working hard to pick these tiny bugs off one by one. Fish small and light, Euro nymphing is always a go to on the fall but a classic indicator rig will work well too, try using a smaller indicator or even a yarn indicator as too not spook to many fish.

Suggested Dries: Purple Haze #18-20, Tilt Wing BWO #18-20, Hackle Stacker Baetis #18-22, BWO Sparkle Dun #18-22, Extended Body BWO #18-20, Griffiths Gnat #18-22, Winkers Midge #20-24.

Suggested Nymphs:Suggested Nymphs: Tail water Tiny Olive #18-22, Rainbow Warrior #18-20, Mighty May Baetis #18-20, Juju Baetis #18-22, Micro Mayfly Olive #18-20, Glo Bugs #12-16.
