LAKE REPORT - 8/7/26
The Cascade Lakes continue to provide some of the most consistent stillwater fishing of the summer. Crane Prairie continues to produce steady numbers of rainbows and quality kokanee along weed edges and the old river channels, while East Lake is turning out strong numbers of quality rainbows & browns. Paulina remains an excellent choice for both trout and some of the largest kokanee in Central Oregon this season.
Callibaetis activity has become less consistent over the past week, but chironomids and damselfly nymphs continue to provide dependable fishing across the region. Trout are feeding below the surface for much of the day, with evening dry fly opportunities improving whenever conditions calm down.
Suspending balanced leeches, chironomids, and damsel nymphs beneath an indicator continues to be the most productive approach. Slow retrieves with olive or black leeches and Woolly Buggers are producing larger trout around drop-offs, submerged timber, and weed edges, while kokanee anglers continue to report excellent action at both East and Paulina.
