METOLIUS REPORT - 8/7/26

The Metolius continues to fish exceptionally well, with its cold spring-fed flows providing one of the most consistent fisheries in Central Oregon.  The river tends to rewarded anglers who slow down, make the first cast count, and focus on covering quality water. Bull trout continue to be a solid option for those willing to dedicate time to streamer fishing. 

PMDs remain the most dependable afternoon hatch, while evening caddis activity continues to build.Trout have been rising consistently on a mix of insects, making observation before rigging up an advantage. 

Subsurface fishing continues to account for the majority of fish. Smaller PMD nymphs, tan caddis pupa, Olive Perdigons, Zebra Midges, and Golden Stone nymphs are all producing when drifted through current transitions and deeper holding water. Streamer anglers continue to move bull trout with articulated baitfish patterns around deeper pools and structure, particularly during the morning and evening hours.
