Lakes Update July 1st, 2022

East and Paulina lake continue to fish well on balanced leeches and chironomids in 3-12 feet of water. Callibaetis are starting to become important too as are some terrestrials like beetles/ants. Stripping small buggers or baitfish patterns has also been producing some fish. There are no boat ramps going in at East this year so if you have a larger boat, Paulina will probably be a better bet for launching. We have heard good initial reports from three creeks lake stripping small streamers and suspending flies under an indicator.. We have heard relatively slow reports from Hosmer although the fish that are being caught are quite nice. We spoke with the owner of the Lava Lake lodge who informed us that the lake has high water for the first time in 5 years, has great visibility (6-8 ft) , and was stocked about a month ago with fish ½ to 1 pound larger than they had previously stocked. This is intriguing and lava lake should be on your list to check out.
