The trout fishing on the day stretch has been consistently good, October caddis are crawling around and the fish definitely know it. Mayflies are sporadic throughout the day with not much action on top and smaller caddis flies are still popping in the evenings. WIth this cool weather rolling into the weekend i would expect the bugs to stay down a bit but fishing should remain solid. Classic indicator rigs are a standard this time of year with a jimmy or October pupa trailed by your choice of smaller caddis pupa or mayfly nymphs. Notably our sparkle duns and tan hares ears have been doing work.
My steelhead report is about the same, the numbers are not great but there are fish pushing through and reports of catches have been steady. They closed the Columbia earlier this week to most salmon and Steelhead fishing due to high catch numbers of Chinook, I haven’t read into it more than that but it can only be good for the fish at this point. The white has been in good shape and the effort has been minimal down in the canyon, im heading down there today for the weekend, we’ll see how it goes!
