METOLIUS REPORT - 10/16/26

The Metolius continues to offer a great mix of fall fishing opportunities as we move into the second half of October. Flows are relatively stable with cooler water and changing weather keeping conditions favorable. Pocket water, deeper runs, and softer edges around structure remain good areas to focus, with nymphing providing some of the more consistent fishing recently.

The fall hatch mix continues to evolve, with PMDs, BWOs, Mahogany Duns, and caddis remaining important. Word is Green Drakes are still providing some opportunities, although their fall window is beginning to wind down. October Caddis, Little Olive Stones, and Golden Stones remain worth having available depending on the day.

Subsurface fishing has been particularly productive with egg patterns, Perdigons, soft hackles, caddis pupa, and stonefly nymphs all worth having in the rotation. Larger streamers continuing to be a good option around deeper pools and structure for those looking to find Bull Trout. With kokanee, Chinook, and bull trout spawning activity underway, watch carefully for redds and avoid disturbing spawning fish.
