METOLIUS REPORT - 10/30/26

The Metolius continues to offer good late-season fishing as October comes to a close. Flows remain  stable around 1,200 CFS, with cold water and changing weather providing a variety of opportunities. Nymphing continues to be a consistent approach, while afternoon hatches and streamer fishing remain worth exploring. October 31 is the final fishing day above Allingham Campground Bridge before the seasonal closure begins November 1. The river downstream of the bridge remains open year-round.

The hatch mix is beginning to narrow as we move toward November. BWOs and PMDs remain important, with the occasional Mahogany Duns providing additional opportunities depending on the day. October Caddis remain part of the mix, while midges are becoming increasingly relevant, particularly through slower water and eddies.

Subsurface fishing remains productive with egg patterns, Perdigons, smaller Baetis nymphs, caddis pupa, stonefly nymphs, and midges all worth having in the rotation. Kokanee spawning activity is beginning to wind down, but eggs remain an important food source for trout and whitefish. Bull trout fishing continues to be a good option with larger streamers around deeper pools and structure. Continue to watch carefully for redds and avoid disturbing spawning fish.
