METOLIUS REPORT - 9/11/26

The Metolius continues to settle into its fall rhythm with cooler weather setting up great conditions. September is one of our favorite times on the river, with the changing weather creating more opportunities throughout the day.

The hatch mix should continue to broaden as we move deeper into September. PMDs and BWOs remain important, with a wider mix of fall mayflies worth watching for. Tan and micro caddis remain abundant, October Caddis are increasing, and Little Olive Stones and Golden Stones continue to be part of the mix. Green Drakes are also worth being prepared for as September progresses, particularly with cooler and cloudier weather.

Subsurface fishing remains steady with Perdigons, PMD nymphs, soft hackles, caddis pupa, stonefly nymphs, and October Caddis pupa all worth having in the rotation. Bull trout remain active and streamers continue to be a good option through deeper pools and structure. Chinook are now spawning in the river, and bull trout spawning activity is also underway, so watch carefully for redds and give spawning fish plenty of room.
