UPPER DESCHUTES REPORT - 9/11/26
The Upper Deschutes is making a noticeable transition into fall, with flows continuing to drop as the irrigation season winds down. Fish remain spread throughout the system, with good opportunities for trout, while deeper bends, undercut banks, and woody structure remain good areas to focus on.
The hatch mix should continue to broaden with the cooler September weather. PMDs and caddis remain important, while BWOs, Tricos, and Mahogany Duns are increasingly worth watching for. Ants, beetles, and hoppers remain good options through the meadow sections, giving anglers plenty of opportunities to stay on top while warmer afternoons hang around.
Subsurface fishing remains steady with Perdigons, smaller mayfly nymphs, caddis nymphs, Hare's Ears, and egg patterns all worth having in the rotation. Streamer fishing should become increasingly productive as fall progresses, particularly around deeper bends, undercut banks, and woody structure. The Upper Deschutes above Benham Falls closes to angling October 1.
