Metolius River Report 7/9/21

Metolius fishing has been good. The heat has made hatches pop off later in the day. Pale morning duns and caddis are the predominant hatches. Golden stones are out and about, mainly above the hatchery. PMD nymphs have been really great out there. Caddis pupa are in the drift all day and golden stone nymphs work great as an attractor. This is the time of year when swinging pupa or soft hackles can be a really fun way to find fish, especially with a trout spey setup. The consistent temperatures of the Metolius make it resilient to the lingering heat; however, trout will still be stressed after the landing process, release them as quickly as possible.
