UPPER DESCHUTES REPORT - 8/28/26
The Upper Deschutes remains a good late-summer option with fish remaing active throughout the upper river. Brook trout and redbands continue to provide good fishing through the headwaters, while browns are holding around deeper bends, undercut banks, and woody structure farther downstream.
PMDs remain an important part of the hatch and are showing throughout the day, with good caddis activity continuing through the headwaters. BWOs, ants, beetles, and hoppers are also in the mix, giving anglers plenty of options when fish are looking up. Late August is a good time to keep a few different terrestrial patterns handy and work them tight to grassy banks and structure.
Subsurface fishing remains steady with small mayfly nymphs, Perdigons, Hare's Ears, caddis nymphs, and stonefly patterns producing, while streamers remain a good option for larger browns around deeper water and wood.
