Fly and Field Outfitters COVID-19 Guide Service Clause

We here at Fly and Field Outfitters are pleased to announce that we’ve decided to go forward with our 2020 Guide Season. After much discussion with all the powers that be -from the Deschutes National Forest to Bureau of Land Management, to the Governor’s Office and Oregon State Marine Board- we feel that we have a plan to get clients out with the minimum risk of exposure while working within the guidelines and recommendations set forth. Our proposal for how we conduct business has been submitted and accepted by the above agencies. So, it is with a mixture of excitement and heavy responsibility that we push on. Please read on to understand how our trips will be structured, as well as what our shared burdens will be to go fishing together safely and within the restrictions established for businesses like ours.

Please know that these restrictions are most certainly NOT how we’d prefer to run our trips. We have, over all these years, creating a product that we are very proud of. We’ve shared our love and passion for fly fishing with thousands of clients doing things a certain way. Unfortunately, for the time being, we are altering aspects of our trip. We will do this as long as we feel it is necessary and as long as the officials who govern our state and administer our permits feel similarly.

First and foremost, the one thing that will not change through these difficult times is that Fly and Field Outfitters will be here to take care of every detail of your trip. We are fully staffed, open seven days a week, stocked with all the knowledgeable staff, killer gear, and unbridled enthusiasm you’ve come to expect from us. From the minute you call or walk into the shop, we will do everything we can to ensure your trip is all you’ve hoped for in a guided fly-fishing adventure.

Until further notice, all trips booked with Fly and Field Outfitters will be run under strict conditions put in place to protect the health and safety of our clients, employees, and everyone they come in contact with.

Detailed Restrictions/Changes On all trips:

  1. Guides and Clients will wear some face covering at all times when within six feet of each other. In drift boats, that means all the time. Clients and guides will whenever possible, maintain a six-foot distance. Clients are responsible for bringing their own masks. If they need one, we can bring a BlackStrap or Patagonia version from the shop and charge the credit card used for booking the trip.
  2. Fly and Field will minimize indoor client interaction by doing wader and boot fitting on the sidewalk in front of the shop, taking care of and issuing permits and licenses as well as r balance of trip and signing waivers without any need for clients to enter the shop. We will allow clients in the shop if they’d like to buy something but in limited numbers. The guide will pull flies -after using hand sanitizer- and keep cup for the day, giving it to the client at the end of the day after sanitizing.
  3. No clients will ride in guide transportation under any circumstances. On Walk-In trips, clients will follow guide to the fishing spot. For Lake Trips we will arrange ramp meets in front of the shop to follow to lake. Lower Deschutes Trips are detailed below.
  4. Gratuity should be given either through the shop on a credit card or -preferably- a money exchange app such as Venmo or Square to minimize any cash transaction.
  5. At the end of the trip Waders and Boots will be sprayed down with alcohol/bleach mixture prior to next use.
  6. If client needs to use guide’s rods, they will have to use the same ones all day. There will be no sharing amongst clients and guides. The guide will have its own rod to use for demonstration casts.
  7. On all boat trips -lake and river- there will be a maximum of 2 clients in the boat.
  8. On all full-day trips, the only lunch option is a deli sandwich box. We will do our best to make sure it’s the most enjoyable sando you’ve ever had! There will be no shared/communal food amongst clients and/or guides.
  9. On Lower Deschutes Trips Fly and Field will arrange for all client rigs to be shuttled from Warm Springs to Trout Creek ($50) or Trout Creek to Maupin ($75) and charged to the client’s credit card. Guide and client will use sanitizing wipes to wipe down the steering wheel, door handles inside and out, dash buttons, radio, turn signal, and gear shift. Client rigs will also wipe keys/fob before stashing in guide rig. Guide and client will also wipe down same surfaces before reentering vehicles at the end of the float. Once the trip has begun, clients and guides will wear a nose and mouth covering at all times in the boat and within six feet of each other. Clients will use hand sanitizer several times throughout the day at the guide’s request.
  10. After every trip the guide will sanitize/disinfect all equipment as well as any and all “touchpoints” in boats, including seats and handrails.
  11. We are asking all clients and guides to advise Fly and Field if they feel or show even the slightest signs of illness or infection. If, for this reason, a trip has to cancel or rebook the last minute, there will be no problem refunding or rescheduling at no cost. We are also requesting that if a client shows symptoms of illness or infection within two weeks of their trip with us, they notify Fly and Field immediately.
