CROOKED REPORT - 10/30/26

The Crooked River continues to run at exceptionally low flows, holding around 37 CFS below Bowman Dam. Despite the reduced water, recent reports suggest fishing remains worthwhile, particularly through deeper runs and remaining riffle water. Releases are expected to increase to approximately 50 CFS beginning November 1, which should provide some additional habitat heading into winter. The Crooked below Bowman Dam remains open year-round, although being mindful of concentrated fish continues to be important.

BWOs and midges remain the primary hatches to watch for, with some good afternoon opportunities being reported. Smaller dries and emergers can provide good fishing when trout are feeding near the surface, particularly during cooler and overcast conditions. Subsurface presentations remain the more consistent approach as we move toward November.

Nymphing continues to produce with small Perdigons, Baetis nymphs, Zebra Midges, scuds, and egg patterns all worth having in the rotation. Whitefish spawning activity is making small yellow egg patterns increasingly relevant, while lighter presentations and single-nymph rigs can be effective through deeper runs away from the weedier channels. With flows remaining low, avoid repeatedly targeting concentrated fish and handle catches with care.
