CROOKED RIVER REPORT - 9/18/26
The Crooked continues its seasonal transition with flows continuing to drop. The river is now running around 120 CFS, down from roughly 175 CFS last week as the irrigation season winds down. With less water in the system, expect fish to become more concentrated and take some time to adjust to the changing conditions.
The hatch mix should continue to shift as we move through September. PMDs remain part of the mix, while BWOs should become increasingly worth watching for with cooler fall weather. Caddis and midges remain important, with smaller dries and emergers good options to have available when fish begin looking up during the afternoon.
Subsurface fishing remains the most consistent approach with Perdigons, Pheasant Tails, smaller mayfly nymphs, scuds, and midges all worth having in the rotation. With flows continuing to drop, lighter rigs, smaller patterns, and careful presentations should become increasingly useful through the shallower riffles and runs.
