LOWER DESCHUTES REPORT - 9/18/26

The Lower Deschutes continues to settle into its fall pattern, with flows coming down slightly and cooler September weather creating great conditions. Trout fishing has been good, with lighter pressure and plenty of opportunity throughout riffles, broken current, and softer edges.

The hatch mix should continue to broaden as we move deeper into September. Caddis remain important, particularly during warmer evenings, while PMDs and PEDs remain part of the mix. BWOs are becoming increasingly worth watching for on cooler and cloudier days, and October Caddis should begin to play a larger role as fall progresses.

Subsurface fishing remains steady with Perdigons, Frenchies, Walt's Worms, caddis pupa, and Black and Golden Stone nymphs all worth having in the rotation. October Caddis pupa are also becoming increasingly relevant, while leeches and smaller streamers continue to provide a good option for covering deeper runs and structure. The river remains closed to steelhead angling, but trout fishing remains open.
