CROOKED REPORT - 11/6/26
The Crooked River is beginning November with some welcome improvement in flows. Releases have increased to around 50 CFS, providing additional water through the runs and riffles after an exceptionally low October. The river remains open year-round, although being mindful of concentrated fish and spawning areas is still important.
BWOs and midges remain the primary hatches to watch for, with some good afternoon dry-fly opportunities being reported. BWOs around size 18 are worth having available through the middle of the day, while smaller black midges become increasingly relevant later in the afternoon. Smaller dries and emergers can provide good fishing when fish are feeding near the surface, with careful presentations remaining important in the lower flows.
Subsurface fishing continues to produce with small Perdigons, Spanish Bullets, Baetis nymphs, scuds, Zebra Midges, and egg patterns all worth having in the rotation. Whitefish spawning activity makes smaller yellow egg patterns particularly relevant, while single-nymph rigs and lighter presentations continue to be good options through the exposed weed channels and deeper runs. Watch carefully for spawning fish and redds as we move further into November.
