A Day In The Mountains

A day of guided fly fishing on a lake is truly a special treat. Our guides have purpose-built lake boats with comfortable seats which means you will spend the day riding in style! We will take you to consistently productive water, pick flies that match the hatch, explain and demonstrate the best techniques, and then help land your first fish for you! Fly & Field Outfitters offers both full-day and half-day lake trips. The full-day fishing trip is preferred both because we get to pamper you with a lakeside lunch and it also gives you the most possibilities to catch lots of fish! But if you have time constraints, a four-hour half-day guided fly fishing trip can be wonderfully fun. Either way, within an hour of Bend, lay multiple Central Oregon fly fishing opportunities at the string of Cascade Lakes. These fisheries offer rainbow, brook, brown and cutthroat trout, landlocked Atlantic and Kokanee salmon, even largemouth bass. Whether fly fishing the summer hatches on East Lake for Blackwater rainbows, chironomid fishing on Crane Prairie Reservoir for the mighty “Cranebow”, or stripping large streamers on Wickiup Reservoir for trophy brown trout, the Cascade Lakes has it all. Let the knowledgeable guides at Fly & Field Outfitters help you to unlock the secrets of these famous lakes.

FAQ's About Cascade Lakes Trips

What is included in a Cascade Lakes guided fly fishing trip?
As with all of our guided adventures, rod, reel, waders, and boots are included in the price. On full-day trips, we serve a delicious lunch either aboard your guide’s boat or ashore. Lunch will be your choice of grilled chicken, brats, burger or deli-style sandwich. Either will be served with salad and a dessert. The cooler will be full of cold soda, Gatorade, and water. If you have any dietary restrictions or food allergies, we will accommodate you and your party
What should I bring for a day on the Cascade Lakes?
We recommend some sunscreen, lip balm, and anything you might need to snack on before or after lunch. Bring a camera or your phone for getting the “grip-n-grin” shot! Also, we are not allowed to supply any alcoholic beverages to our clients. Having said that, you are more than welcome to bring a six-pack or whatever your preference is. We’ve been informed, by perfectly reliable sources, that a cold beer goes nicely with a day of fishing.
What isn't included in the price of a guided trip?
You will be responsible for purchasing a few flies for the day. If you do not already have an Oregon Fishing License we can sell you one here at the shop either the day of the trip or beforehand. And any additional gratuity for your guide is 100% welcome and always goes to a good cause.
What species of fish can we expect to catch?
Well, that depends on which lake we take you to! And that will depend on what your aspirations are for your day out with us. Typically, we will listen to what you’d like to get out of the day and then make a recommendation as to which lake we should hit. The other variables will be the weather and fishing conditions. For example, if you tell us you’re an experienced angler who would love the opportunity for the fish of a lifetime, understanding that such a pursuit may not offer a ton of action throughout the day, we will most likely steer the conversation towards Crane Prairie or Wickiup, where we’ll chase big rainbow and brown trout. If you’ve got little or no experience and just want a casual day trying to catch a few fish, we’ll talk about East Lake or the Lava lakes, where we will have chances at rainbow, brown, and brook trout. At Hosmer Lake, we will look for rainbow and cutthroat. As you can see, it's a 'choose your own adventure' set up and we will help you along every step of the way.
What should I wear for the day on a Cascade Lakes trip?
Dressing properly is an important aspect of an enjoyable day on the water. In the spring and fall that can mean anything from a puffy jacket and beanie to flip-flops, shorts, and a sun hat. During the summer, the vast majority of the time we are in lightweight, UV protectant clothes, and a large-brimmed hat. We recommend a pair of polarized sunglasses for the highest protection and visibility in the water. If the weather goes sideways, we always have you covered and will provide quality waders for you to throw on.
How many people can you accommodate?
The maximum per boat is three, with some exceptions when we might recommend two. We can take multiple boats out for larger parties. For group outings we also offer all-inclusive pricing. Contact the shop at 1-866-800-2812 for how that works, and we look forward to a great time fly fishing on the pristine Central Oregon waters with you!
