CROOKED REPORT - 9/4/26
The Crooked is beginning its seasonal transition with flows dropping lightly to around 225 CFS. The river remains in good shape, but with Prineville Reservoir continuing to draw down, flows will be something to keep an eye on over the coming weeks.
The hatch mix should begin to shift as we move into September. Caddis remain important, with smaller tan and black caddis worth having available throughout the day. PMDs remain part of the mix, while midges and smaller mayflies should continue to provide opportunities between the more noticeable hatches. Terrestrials are also still worth carrying while warmer afternoons hang around.
Subsurface fishing remains the most consistent approach with caddis pupa, Pheasant Tails, Perdigons, PMD nymphs, scuds, midges, and smaller stonefly patterns all worth having in the rotation. Soft hackles and smaller leeches can also be good options through deeper runs and transition water.
