Crooked River Update

Crooked River Update

It has been a little bit of a strange summer on the Crooked thus far, and while the average size of fish has been good and we’ve had some fantastic days, the consistency of the fishery has been off. We’ve seen a good amount of turbid water and algae move down out of the lake, and while the water conditions don’t necessarily preclude good fishing they can cause a fair amount of frustration. The good news is that conditions seem to be trending in the right direction, and we have seen less algae and more fish in the past week or so than we did during the month of June. The fish have also received relatively little pressure compared to years past, and they are healthy and looking for meals. There are good numbers of Caddis and PMDs around, and decent dry fly opportunities in the mid-late mornings and evenings. The nymphing has been relatively consistent, with the standard Midges, small Mayflies, and Scud patterns all producing fish.
