The flows on the Crooked have stayed steady at 180 CFS since they increased in early April. Look for flows to continue to increase in coming weeks, and focus on fishing slow pockets and edges as the fish adjust to the higher levels. Attract fish by fishing slightly larger nymphs including copper johns, lightning bugs, and rainbow warriors in pearl and red in sizes 16-18, or a jimmy legs in size 8-10. Midge patterns will still work well when fished behind the flies listed above. Try zebra midges in black and purple, and winkers midges in red or black sizes 18-22.
Streamers will become more effective as flows increase, and are a great way to cover a lot of water when searching for fish that have moved to new holding areas. Sculpzillas and bunny busters in darker colors, brown and black are reliable patterns for either swinging or retrieving.
