Crooked River Update October 4th, 2024

Crooked River continues to be one of Oregon’s top fisheries, with solid action expected through winter. Nymphing is the primary method, with patterns like zebra midges, tungsten Frenchies, micro mayflies, and scuds in tan, green, and orange being particularly effective. The Ray Charles Nymph in Orange has been especially productive this past week. PMD hatches are still going strong, with Mahogany Duns and BWOs becoming more common as the season progresses. For dry flies, focus on size 18 patterns—caddis and PMDs are key. Make sure to have a variety of #16-18 mayfly nymphs and smaller #18-20 olive or black nymphs to match the hatch. Soft hackles and small streamers can also produce some fun action. Keep a variety of midges, scuds, and Perdigons in your box—Crooked River offers great diversity in fishing techniques.
