Crooked River Update September 27th, 2024

The Crooked River is fishing exceptionally well and remains one of the top spots in Oregon, with action expected to stay strong until winter. Nymphing is your best bet during the day—patterns like zebra midges, tungsten Frenchies, micro mayflies, and scuds in tan, green, and orange are highly effective; the go-to favorite has been the Ray Charles Nymph in Orange. PMD hatches are still impressive, with Mahogany Duns and BWOs also becoming more common. For dry flies, size 18 is key, so keep a good selection of caddis and PMDs ready. Don't overlook nymphing with #16-18 mayfly nymphs and #18-20 olive or black mayfly nymphs to match the hatch. Swinging soft hackles or small streamers can offer a fun and productive alternative too. Make sure to have a variety of midges, scuds, and Perdigons in your box for this productive fishery.
