December Fishing On The Big River

December Fishing On The Big River

Amy over at the Deschutes angler put an update up on their website as far as the snow goes. The upper section from Pelton down to the northern boundary of the reservation will close at the end of this month and won’t reopen until late April.

As far as fishing goes the trout are still on the eggs and fishing should be productive with a larger stonefly and an egg under an indicator. Look for those whitefish spawning in the riffles and side channels and the trout to be stacked up behind them. We have some sweet new egg patterns in the shop so swing by and get em’ while they’re hot! Should be an egg-citing time down there…hoho!

Had some Guys swinging  above Maupin for steelies’ last week, three rods, two days one landed one more hooked and lost. They are headed back out this weekend so we will see how they do. The season turned out better than I expected and there is still time to get out there and stand in a cold river so layer up and take some extra socks, it gets chilly down in that canyon!
