East Lake Update

East Lake Update

While East has continued to fish well things have changed a little in the past week or so. An Easterly wind has pushed many of the fish out of the shallows, where they’ve been gorging on the amazing Callibaetis hatches we’ve been seeing, and into deeper water. There are still fish in the shallows but not in the numbers we had seen, they have also seen a lot of flies and have become more leader-shy and wary of the typical Callibaetis dries we’ve seen so much success on. There is still good opportunity to fish dries, just expect to put a little more work toward a few less fish than we’ve seen in recent weeks. For those looking to maximize numbers of fish heading to deeper water is the best option. Indicator fishing and subsurface patterns will play a larger role in the deeper water than in the shallows, be ready with long leaders, Chironomids, and Callibaetis nymphs. Check back for an update, if the Easterly wind dies down things will change and we’ll have up to date info on what’s happening on all of the area’s lakes.
